Last con of the year for me and a quieter event compared to the madness of the summer one.
As normal lots of costumes on display and I again helped with the charity stall for our Starfleet Chapter, the USS Iceni.
It was a chance for me to get a few more names on my Game of Thrones canvas and to meet Alan Ruck who played (among others) Captain John Harriman of the Starship Enterprise-B in Star Trek Generations…..such a friendly guy!
I was only able to attend one day of this event. Was saving money for the big Star Wars event 2 months after. But, there were a few people I just had to meet!
First up was Grace Park who plays Sharon Valerii (Boomer/Athena) in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. She was lovely and very friendly, unlike her agent!
Then came Anthony Montgomery who plays Ensign Travis Mayweather in Star Trek: Enterprise. A friendly but very humble guy and a pleasure to talk to.
Finally I met Rene Auberjonois who played Odo in Star Trek: DS9. Like his fellow Trek actor Anthony, he was a lovely guy who was also collecting for his charity, Doctors Without Borders. I was happy to donate!
Collectormania takes place twice a year, so it meant another trip to MK.
One of my childhood heroes, William Shatner, was in attendance. Unfortunately, my first meeting with the man left an unpleasant memory. We were herded through like cattle and barely an acknowledgement came from the man himself. Luckily, he made up for it in the future.
Another Trek lady was Marina Sirtis who played Deanna Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Also in attendance were Robert Englund, from V and A Nightmare on Elm Street. He is a lovely guy, very friendly. Karen Allen and Paul Freeman from Raiders of the Lost Ark, again, both nice but Paul was a bit stand offish. Tricia Helfer from Battlestar Galactica (RDM) and a teenage crush, Erika Eleniak from Baywatch!
The number of guests at each event was growing…….and so was my hobbie!
There were a few more guests than in previous years at Rising Star 6 in 1997.
Rick Biggs had brought along a guest star from the current series of B5, Marjorie Monaghan who played the terrorist, Number One. She was lovely but look a bit scared most of the time. I got to cover the guest assistant role a few times for both her and Rick.
Richard Hatch starred in the original Battlestar Galactica (and again in the remake). He was an ok guest, liked a practical joke or two, but was full of his own self importance….this didn’t go down too well with some. Luckily his attitude seems to have changed over the years as you will see elsewhere in this blog.
Then we move onto BarBara Luna. Hmm. Nice enough lady but, HAS to be the centre of attention all of the time. Kinda reminded me of Zsa Zsa Gabor. Unfortunately, I cannot find the picture I had with her but I am on the hunt!
